Lake in the Hills Rotary Club plants new pollinator garden

McHenry County now has a new pollinator garden to add to the county’s conservation efforts, thanks to the Lake in the Hills Rotary Club, VCP Printing and the Land Conservancy of McHenry County. The club’s first garden is a part of Operation Pollination’s goal, to “collaboratively and strategically protect and enhance pollinator species and their habitat on public and private lands.”

In a statement, the Lake in the Hills Rotary Club explained the reasoning behind planting the pollinator garden, “Pollinators around the world have been in steep decline for many reasons so in an effort to improve our pollinator population our club will begin planting pollination gardens in the area.”

“VCP Printing donated a portion of its property so that the rotary club could plant the garden, and with the assistance of the Land Conservancy of McHenry County, club members selected numerous native plants that attract local pollinators, including butterflies, hummingbirds and honey bees,” the statement continues.

The pollinator garden can be found at VCP Printing, 901 W. Algonquin Road in Algonquin.
